Moving On

My Dad always said that life gets faster the older you get and he wasn't wrong!

With everything that has been happening these past few months, it seems there has barely been time to breathe, let alone bash out any ramblings in this blog ... the only reason I am doing so now is that crunch time is coming and I need to ramble  :-)

Currently, I work on a customer site in Watford on a contract that replaced the one we had at our previous employment.  Unfortunately, as there has been no project work forthcoming (presumably since the customer has now realised they have to pay for work and, therefore, actually think about what they want), these past five months have been filled with HUUUUUGE amounts of documentation, otherwise known as TEE-DEE-UM!

However, on the plus side, it's been a long time that I enjoyed working with any group of people this much: KitKat is a constant source of amusement and a much-needed distraction from the daily grind, whilst DJ Flip-U (ergophonic) and I have been trying to out-prank each other - I'm still waiting for payback for the chair incident!

But, as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end and the move to another customer site in Hitchin is now underway, heading up there two days a week until the week after next.  A whole new world awaits and I don't mind admitting I'm a little terrified.

Finally, after all this time, I will be getting back into Java development but as I generally learned it on the job and haven't used these skills in over 4 years, I will very much be the baby of the group and am understandably a tad worried that I can't cut it.  Needless to say, I haven't settled in there yet though the peeps seem quite friendly.

This is where a little retail therapy comes into its own and I am now the proud owner of a HTC Hero!  :-)

I know there are a lot of people out there that will comment that it's not an iPhone, but you know what?  I. Don't. Care.  I love this phone.  Don't get me wrong, I think Apple do a grand job of creating desirable products and I would have a Mac over PC any day, I just didn't want to jump on the iPhone bandwagon.  It's like all the buzz around Dan Brown and The Da Vinci Code - there was so much fuss made about it that it put me off.

And my thoughts about the iPad?  It's nice, but it's just a big iPod Touch with a few more apps.  Will it fill a hole they think is there?  Who knows, only time will tell, but I doubt I'll be getting one...
