Am I the rock that starts the avalanche...

...or the spark that ignites the rocket?

Okay, a tad cryptic there but I'm sure you can work out that what is to follow on from today is either the start of everything going wrong or the start of a very exciting adventure ... I am REALLY hoping for the latter here!!!

For a few years now, I've been getting a bit antsy about working in IT, whether because of frustrating colleagues, irritating customers or incompatible tech, amongst other things.  When we went through the TUPE transfer last September/October, I was offered what sounded like an amazing opportunity when compared to the cuts I would have to make if I stayed with my previous employer.  Who would turn down such an opportunity???

For the cynics amongst you: congratulations, you are right.  The amazing opportunity had all the substance of an air guitar and I have ended up essentially just doing support work on applications that are so badly coded they should be sent to bootcamp: the 'big project' I accepted the offer to do is so far out of my reach it would be sucked into a black hole before I got anywhere near it.

Up until now, I have been resigned to just ploughing on and seeing where things take me.  However, as of last month I have decided to take a more active role in my own life* ... and last week, completed my UCAS application for University!

I haven't the foggiest idea when I will hear anything about a successful application or not but I would think that I could be looking to hear something by mid-August at the latest, which means only one thing: the three months notice I am contractually obliged to give has had to come into force...

HOE LEAF U-KINK RAP!!!

Oh and "Shhhhhhhhh!" - I haven't told the folks yet cos I know they'll worry and I'll just get nagged!!

* I've been more of a passenger so far, wondering where I will end up!

Mmmm, I'm not entirely sure, though I do have to tell them my Flickr URL every time I tell them about photos, so chances are they don't!

I'll have to tell them at lunchtime and grin and bear the result :-(
